My art grows from immersion in the natural world.
I create from a studio at my cabin sanctuary in West Virginia. Here, the landscape is my teacher. Trees falling across my hiking trail remind me that it’s easier to navigate around obstacles than to move them. Water teaches fluidity, while straight lines are rare in a world of random imperfection. These lessons infuse my art with playful exploration and a co-creative relationship with materials.
With my paintings, I let the energy of the natural world flow through me onto the canvas. I use various tools and my fingers with spontaneous gestures to create a fluid visual language of feelings and movement.
My nature sculptures celebrate the physical and ephemeral qualities of the environment. I present rocks, vines, and branches in unexpected ways. Sculptures crafted from natural elements evolve and decay through time, mirroring life.
I'm inspired by this philosophy of art-making:
“Don’t write the music.
Let the music write itself.”
